England Cricket Tour to India
November/December 2008
We are delighted to say that the itinerary for the tour is now emerging though agreement has yet to be reached between the ECB and BCCI.
We are inviting expressions of interest now by signing up to our free advance reguistration service offered in the right hand column on this page. While the itinerary is notyet confirmed the BCCI have proposed that the1st Test Match should take place in Ahmedabad and the 2nd in Mumbai.
England's objective for this tour is in no doubt. This is to improve on their challenging Test match tour of 2006 which was drawn 1 -1 when England squared the series in the third and final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The win was sealed in a spectacular Indian batting collapse orchestrated by an inspired spell of bowling by Shaun Udal. His spin twin, Monty Panesar, wrapped up the match and the series with a fine catch at deep mid off from a towering hit by Mahendra Dhoni.
A visit to India is to appreciate the complexity of India’s eclectic social and ethnic society. Ever changing landscapes, innumerable temples and palaces from civilisations past coexist in a surreal continuum with the still prominent remnants of the British Raj and the rapidly changing townscapes of a dynamic 21st Century economy.
This is as true of Ahmedabad as elsewhere being a both ancient and modern city of just under 4 million inhabitants. Cultural diversity is celebrated with an architectural heritage born of ages past and illustrated by its temples, mosques, forts and museums. With perhaps less of the British Raj influence than elsewhere it neverthless offers a window on traditional and commercial India and the city is a beneficiary of the 21st Century economic boom sweeping the country providing a good choice of modern and classically styled international standard 1st Class hotels.
Mumbai will be well known to experienced cricket tourists as the most cosmopolitan of cities of India with a wider choice of availability than was the case in 2006 when the much delayed announcement of the itinerary only weeks before the start of the tour offered scant choice for English tourists. As the self styled home of Indian cricket it enjoys passionate but appreciative support from local fans.
You will be able to choose from a one or two Test match package and at least one ODI depending on the final itinerary.
